1:25 p.m., Jan. 29, 2010--Beginning with the spring 2010 semester, the University of Delaware will offer a new undergraduate-level course in public health. HLPR/UAPP 267, "Introduction to Public Health", will be open to students in all majors. UD is also developing a minor in public health, which will be voted on by the Faculty Senate at its May 2010 meeting.

For other people without a teaching background, an education degree might sound like a promising choice for changing professions. 8:35 a.m., Jan. 13, 2010--If you've ever stepped a bare foot on the bottom of the Delaware River, you've discovered what scientists already know -- there's gooey, grey muck down there, and lots of it. Each year, more than a million tons of sediment washes into the Delaware River estuary, which winds 134 miles from Trenton, N.J., to the mouth of the bay.

12 p.m., July 28, 2010--Doris Duke, the famous heiress, developed a passion for Islamic art and architecture during a honeymoon trip around the world. One of her last stops was Honolulu, Hawaii, where she decided to design and construct a home inspired by the art she loved. She called it Shangri La, and later in life, decided that her house would become a public museum to showcase her collection of Islamic art.
11:56 a.m., July 28, 2010--This summer, I am interning in the Costume and Textile Conservation lab at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, under the direction of textile conservator Sara Reiter. During my time here, I am fortunate to be getting a taste of the varied activities that occur in the conservation lab of a large museum -- a new and exciting opportunity for me.

This summer, I was awarded funding to attend international conferences held in the Netherlands that addressed pressing issues on the conservation of contemporary art, and education of contemporary art conservators. Topics such as how to preserve the immateriality of installation art, and the complexities of conserving time-based media art, were discussed.

Poggio Colla has been annually excavated for the past 17 seasons by Southern Methodist University, Franklin and Marshall College and the University of Pennsylvania Museum.

SRAL's mission is to preserve cultural heritage sites and materials in the province of Limburg, and their state-of-the-art atelier is located in the beautiful city of Maastricht at the southernmost tip of the Netherlands.
